$222 Million approved to buy drugs for persons living with HIV/AIDS


Cabinet approved the award of contracts for the purchase of more than $222 million worth of antiretroviral drugs to support the work of the Jamaica Country Coordinating Mechanism for HIV/AIDS Response. Matrix Laboratories will provide $174 million in drugs and Ranbaxy Laboratory $48 million.
The announcement was made by Minister with responsibility for Information, Daryl Vaz, at yesterday’s post cabinet briefing at Jamaica House (January 26).
The funds are from the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, and will be used to continue treatment of persons living with HIV/AIDS while expanding services for all persons in need of such care.
